Oregon’s State Board of Forestry recently recognized its 2017 Forest Operators of the Year, an award that recognizes contractors who consistently exceed Oregon Forest Practices Act standards voluntarily and also help improve public understanding of the forest practices act, how it works and protect environmental values. The 2017 honorees are:

  • Eastern Oregon’s Lane Parry Forestry Consulting of Baker City worked closely with 14 landowners across 2,000 acres following 2015 wildfires in the region by helping them set management goals for recovery after the fires, and working with with logging options, log marketing, stream protection, replanting and more.
  • Northwest Oregon operator Morisse Logging from Astoria earned its honor by protecting and improving fish habitat along the heavily traveled Hwy. 26 from Portland to the coast. Logging safety hazard trees near streams and the highway, Morisse Logging took extra caution with flagging and traffic and also brought civic groups to the site to tour habitat improvements
  • Top Southwest Oregon operator Denali Logging of Coos Bay was honored for its work on several complex harvests involving fish habitat, cultural values, coastal pastures in a wet spring, working around powerlines and even supplying a homeowner with generator power when a line had to be dropped briefly in order to remove safety hazard trees.
